SEO: a valuable ally for your brand

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a set of strategies, techniques, and tactics used to drive visitors to websites by maximizing the ranks of those sites across Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others. The higher a site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the possibility of user visits. SEO not only ensures that a site is accessible by search engines, it improves (i.e., optimizes) the chances that the site will be found by search engines.

“Content is king”, but the truth is that without a SEO strategy no one will have access to your valuable content. Once you’ve brought the audience to your site using SEO, then you dazzle them with top quality, fresh content and a customer service team ready to answer questions, generating ROI. So, content and SEO go together (like hipsters and beards), and you really can’t have one without the other.

However, SEO doesn’t, and shouldn’t, mean keyword stuffing. Packing your site with keywords is an ill-advised tactic, resulting in robotic, idiotic, and simply inaccurate content. SEO is as much art as it is science, and just like all arts and sciences, SEO has its own secrets. First, to ensure your content incorporates SEO, use your exact keyword, in a natural way, in the following places:

  • Title tag

  • Headline

  • First sentence

  • Image alt text

  • Four to six times throughout the copy – in case your copy is (ideally) 500 – 700 words long

These tactics refer not only to actions you take on your site (onsite SEO), but also to activities which take place outside the boundaries of the webpage itself (off-site SEO) – think link building, social media, social bookmarking, and the like.
